Alozaina
This Andalusian village lies inland of Marbella. From the coast you drive up the mountain, in the direction of Ojén and Monda. You continue driving through Guaro until you reach your destination. You will notice a change of landscape as you approach the inland countryside. You will especially notice how suddenly there are endless fields of olive groves. It’s a spectacular experience.
In 1979 it was chosen to be the most beautiful village of the entire country, Spain! The best way to discover Alozaina is by getting lost in the small streets. Additionally, this will give you the true Andalusian experience. A must see is definitely the local church, which you can access from the main square. The square is also where the locals celebrate the ferias. Yet another fantastic experience.
How to become a local in Alozaina?
It doesn’t matter whether you are Spanish or a foreigner, moving to a new place and meeting new people is always a little bit intimidating. But worry not! Generally speaking, the Andalusians are incredibly welcoming people. They are curious and will want to know who you are, what you do, where you come from… Make sure you show the same kind of interest simply by showing your face around. Go for a tapas lunch or dinner in the village, buy your daily groceries there. Join the local gym and engage with people when you are walking on the main square. The more openness you show, the more kindness you will receive.
Naturally, if you speak Spanish your integration process will be quicker, but this does not mean that it is impossible to integrate without dominating the language. As a starter, take some Spanish lessons because you will need them. In Alozaina, just like other smaller towns inland Andalucía, they speak Spanish, Castellano, with an accent! The accent is Andalusian. It is faster, they have their own sayings and often they won’t pronounce their s’s. You’ll get the hang of it! Don’t worry.
