For many of us it’s a dream, for the family Kooloos it’s reality! Last August they’ve bought the boutique hotel La posada del Ángel in Ojen, packed their bags and moved to Andalusia to start up a new life. Helga and Ton, the proud new owners of the hotel, have to admit that they haven’t played as much golf as they planned to. Instead they have done a fabulous job refurbishing the hotel. The hotel in traditional Andalusian style, has 17 rooms, built around a patio which now forms the heart of the hotel. Many of the original features have been retained so the hotel breathes the original the Andalusian charm. It is not just the hotel that has held onto its typical traditional architecture. Ojen have managed to make sure that the original character of the white village has been preserved – a big achievement given the amount of re-development going on this part of Spain. It’s a joy to wander round the village and stop in one of the restaurants and bars around the village square, who welcome you in and offer good food.
Helga and Ton plan to make some more improvements this winter. A number of rooms are much too small in their opinion. In the autumn we will join smaller rooms into one to create larger family suites, with a large sofa bed, pantry, fridge and microwave. They are considering providing a golf buggy to transport guests from the car park and maybe most importantly: we’re in the process of acquiring a ruin which adjoins the hotel, once the purchase is complete this will provide ample room for a swimming pool, extra terraces and an outdoor kitchen. We’re aiming to have the swimming pool open by May 2012. So lots of plans for the near future…
If you fancy a week or a long weekend in true Andalusia we can really recommend this hotel! Helga and Ton will make sure you make the most out of your stay. Whether it’s relaxing in and around the hotel, playing golf at the Costa del Sol, hiking through the mountains or visiting the Andalusian cultural highlights, they will guide you through the possibilities. And don’t be surprised, They are so committed to make your stay unforgettable, they even might invite you for a BBQ at their house!
