Living in Andalusia is a dream come true. Where we live in the Costa del Sol, we have an average yearly temperature of 19 °C. Truly, beach days in December and January are not a myth! This alone is the ideal argument to pack your suitcases and move to the delightful Andalusia.
We can list more than one thousand reasons why starting a new life in the beautiful South of Spain is the right decision. It doesn’t matter whether it is the Costa del Sol, Costa de la Luz or inland Andalusia. Next to the weather we can name the history, the Andalusian culture, the stunning nature and the multicultural community. Nevertheless, there are some things you should know before investing in a country property in Andalusia. In this guide, we have described the different things you need to be aware of and how we will help you in different situations.
What is the best location to buy a country property in Andalusia?
The question should really be, “What is the best location for you to buy a country property in Andalusia?”
- Are you a golfer?
- Do you have children that go to an international school?
- Do you want absolute privacy?
- Do you want to be within 1 hour of the coast, the airport, or a big city?
Each province and each area have different things to offer. At Villas & Fincas we assist you in finding the right place for you. If you like to have a pre-view, check out our area guides.
Buying a holiday house or a (semi) permanent home in Andalusia
Establishing the purpose of your new property beforehand is a wise thing to do. Think about the following questions:
- Will it be a private, family holiday home?
- Do you plan to rent out your holiday home when you are not in Spain?
- Is it a semi residential property and are you going to spend a good time of the year here?
Many of our clients are also looking for a ‘jobby’ on the side. Either running a B&B or having a boutique vineyard or olive grove. Depending on the use a certain type or area can be better than others. We can advise you!
Legal possibilities and restrictions
As elsewhere in Europe, on rustic or agricultural land you cannot build freely. The government wants to protect nature and have taken measures to prevent over-building. We think this is a good thing, since, simultaneously, the laws also protect the privacy and natural setting or the properties we offer for sale.
In your search you have to be aware of the fact that generally speaking, it will be complicated to extend your property. You can do internal work to upgrade the quality and redesign your home. However, extensions are very limited and have to be treated with care. Villas & Fincas will be able to advise you in this process as well. We have thorough knowledge of the legal processes and can give you a heads up on the possibilities and restrictions.
