Owning a private estate in Spain, or as the Spanish say, a Finca de Recreo is choosing a lifestyle to enjoy the company of your family and friends in a setting of privacy and nature. Most of the time some farm activity is involved as well, but no worries, you will be surrounded by experts who will advise and execute! For you it is an extra add-on, to have your own olive oil or wine, or your sheep and horses are grazing the fields. Remember, it is never a job, it is always a joy to be able to dedicate part of your life to something completely different!

A private estate in Spain near Ronda

In this blog we will focus on a private estate near Ronda. It is located at 30 minutes from Ronda, between the villages of El Burgo and Yunquera. A site of spectacular beauty and known for its spectacular Olive Oil. The olive oil from the Sierra de las Nieves. No wonder that this finca also planted 6 hectares with the olive variety Hojiblanca. They are around 15 years old and in full production now, reaching at around 20.000kg of olives per year, and therefore 4000kg of extra virgen olive oil. Since the estate measures over 160 hectares (1.600.000m2), the olive grove only occupies a small part of the finca. And that is exactly what a ‘Finca de recreo’ is about! The idea is to have hobby projects here and there that connect you with nature.

Think about it like this. If one of your family members is fond of horses, then your private estate in Spain is prepared so that the family can ride on the estate or train in the fields. Another brilliant idea you might have is to start experimenting with wine making. In this case, then it’s ideal to collaborate with a Bodega in Ronda and plant a few hectares of vines. Do you want to keep the fields productive? You can now realise your dream and become that enchanting and rustic farmer! Seed your fields with chick peas, wheat, Alfalfa and provide animal feed for your horses at the same time. Of course, creating an organic vegetable patch with seasonal vegetables is almost a must if you own a private estate in Spain, near Ronda.

Activities for your Estate

What’s great about a Finca de Recreo, is that you come up with the brilliant ideas and can be as involved as you desire. If you want, you can get your hands dirty, help with seeding, planting, harvesting, taking care of the animals, etc. Alternatively, you hire someone to do the planning, to take care of the land, to organise the harvesting & production, and in return you get X amount of litres of olive oil per year, ro X kg of wood, or X kg of the produce… Depending on your involvement you will have more or less free time.

For the times when you do have free time, some great alternative activities are the following:

  • Explore your estate by foot, by horse, by car. If you are a mountain biker at heart, then you will create the pathways to go biking on your own grounds.
  • Collect as many fresh & wild herbs as you can! Yes of course, you can plant them in your garden, but imagine how exciting it is to go exploring and collect fresh thyme to use for your home cooked meals.
  • Go for a hike and bring your binoculars. You never know what you might hear or see in the distance.
  • Pack a sketch-book, some pencils, or go all out and pack a canvas, brushes and paint. Find a beautiful spot on your estate and bring the inner Monet out! Sketch or paint away.
